In honour of Tony Tarver, the distinguished entertainment manager and much-loved dance teacher who helped define the Empress Building’s golden age, The Tarver Suite celebrates an era of glamour, rhythm and unforgettable evenings. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Tarver curated spectacular ballroom nights beneath glittering chandeliers—where swing, rock ’n’ roll and timeless elegance brought the community together. His passion, grace and dedication to dance left a legacy still felt within these walls today.

The Tarver Suite is a graceful tribute to that post-war golden era, blending classic sophistication with modern luxury. It’s an ideal retreat for guests who appreciate timeless style, musical heritage, and a meaningful connection to the Empress Building’s storied past.

Unwind in a sumptuous super king-size bed, or choose twin single beds for added flexibility. Refresh and recharge in your private en-suite bathroom, complete with a spacious double rainfall shower and premium fittings designed for pure relaxation.

Enjoy the ease of seamless self check-in and the convenience of a direct internal connection to the Goa Spice Bar & Restaurant, with room service available between 5:30pm and 10:00pm. Perfectly positioned in the heart of Mexborough town centre, the hotel is just a short walk from shops, gyms, pubs, venues, cafés and eateries.

Guests also benefit from a carefully curated selection of high-end amenities:

  • 60" digital TV
  • Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi
  • Full-length mirror
  • Wardrobe
  • Office desk / dressing table
  • Mini bar / fridge
  • In-room safe
  • Iron & ironing board
  • Tea & coffee making facilities

For those travelling with a child, a baby cot can be added during checkout, and guests may also choose an optional continental breakfast for a relaxed and effortless start to the day.

Fully powered by solar energy, The Tarver Suite beautifully marries heritage with sustainability—an elegant stay inspired by the golden age of music and dance, thoughtfully reimagined for today.

Location

Empress Building, 2 Swinton Road, Mexborough, United Kingdom

The Empress Building is located just 15 minutes from Junction 36 of the A1 Motorway, and 20 minutes from Junction 35 of the M1 Motorway, which gives it a fabulously accessible central location for most road networks.

A main dual carriageway runs alongside the town, and our venue is less than a minute from the main road. The best place to park is The Original Factory Shop, which is directly across the road from the Empress Building, and this is a huge, free car park. There are multiple other accessible car parks in the town, of which some will be free-to-park, and others will be pay-and-display.

Our venue is a short walk from the station, although you may need to cross the dual carriageway. There is a safe and convenient crossing point less than a minute’s walk from our building, so be sure to cross safely at the designated spot.
